Baylor Scott and White Health is seeking a BC/BE General Surgeon with fellowship training in AAES Surgical Endocrinology to join our outstanding Division of Surgical Oncology program in our large integrated health system in Temple, TX. Position Highlights Established tertiary referral system. Fellowship training through AAES is preferred. Consideration for surgical oncology fellowship will also be given. The Surgical Oncology Division currently consists of 7 surgeons, and 3 NPs. Faculty position for BSW Temple AAES accredited Surgical Endocrine Fellowship Integrated with a General Surgery Residency Training Program, the position will involve teaching residents and medical students with faculty academic appointment with Baylor College of Medicine. Active clinical research and teaching opportunities are available Continued practice of general surgery with possible additional care of breast diseases is also highly desired. We are seeking a Surgeon to provide advanced technology and surgical innovation, introduce state-of-the-art techniques, and continue to build upon and support an established program of excellence for major and complex endocrine surgery. Baylor Scott and White surgical oncologists are key members of Baylor Scott and White Cancer Institute's integrated care teams, located at Baylor Scott and White Vasicek Cancer Treatment Center. Unit: School Of Medicine MBU Department: Surgery Mission or goal of unit: The mission of the VCU Division of Surgical Oncology is to both provide the Mid-Atlantic’s most advanced, patient-oriented, cost-effective and safe Surgical Oncology Services, as well as to create the finest training environment for the region’s future Surgical Oncology Specialists. Chief Purpose of This Position in Support of About Mission or Goal: This position is open rank, an early- to mid-career collateral, non-tenure track faculty position in the VCU Surgical Oncology Division. The faculty member should have clinical and research interests that complement and expand on existing expertise in the Division. Clinical and research areas of particular interest should primarily be in the treatment of benign and malignant endocrine diseases. The faculty member should also support the current Division’s expanding efforts to provide excellent oncology surgical support to many of our current regional outreach programs, including Massey Cancer Center. Finally, the faculty member should support the Division’s commitment to teaching Surgery Residents and, Fellows as well as VCU Medical Students. As part of the Massey Cancer Center, an NCI-designated cancer center, our division offers access to cutting-edge research, multidisciplinary collaboration, and a diverse patient population. The successful candidate will contribute to a thriving surgical oncology program known for its innovation, outreach, and commitment to excellence in education and clinical care. Responsibilities Teaching The faculty member will have teaching responsibilities in Surgical Oncology with an emphasis on Endocrine Surgery. Research The faculty member will participate in clinical and/or basic science research relevant to the expanding field of Endocrine Surgery. Research in the field of translational oncology, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, or cancer genomics would be preferred. A record of publication in refereed journals or presentations at national meetings is expected. The faculty member is expected to develop interdisciplinary collaborations within VCU’s Massey Cancer Center, Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology to achieve these goals. Service The faculty member will serve on University, Health System, and Departmental committees as requested by leadership. They will assist with the recruitment, training, and placement of Residents and Fellows among the varied specialties outlines above. Clinical Faculty member clinical responsibility will be a full- time endocrine clinical practice, including outreach clinics, and bringing novel techniques to benefit patients. Additionally, the faculty member responsibility will be in the care of the Oncology Surgical patients on the MCV campus of VCU, as well as community outreach satellite location(s). They will be responsible for the development of an active endocrine surgical practice, with the support of the Division and Department’s leadership. Minimum Qualifications Board Certification or Eligibility in General Surgery. Advanced training fellowship in Endocrine Surgery or Surgical Oncology with extensive training in Endocrine Surgery. Commitment to Outcomes, Clinical and/or Basic Science Research Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
