AAES Research Survey Policy

Policy last updated: 5/30/2023

Investigators interested in surveying the AAES membership are encouraged to submit a request to the organization. The AAES member mailing list consists of over 500 members located across the Americas (United States, Canada, Mexico, Central, and South America) and abroad. The majority of AAES members reside in the United States. All surveys are reviewed by the AAES Research Committee. A limited number are approved for distribution. The AAES is committed to only distributing surveys of high caliber and that are relevant to the membership.

To submit a survey for consideration by the AAES Research Committee, e-mail [email protected] ‘Attn: Chair of the Research Committee’ with the following documents:

  1. Full survey
  2. Documentation of IRB approval
  3. Brief study proposal letter including goals of the survey

Given the volume of surveys submitted, and to limit survey fatigue, the AAES Research Committee reviews submitted surveys at three time-points during the year. Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis. Review of submissions occurs according to the submission deadlines below:

Submission deadline     Notification of result
May 15th      June 15th
September 15th     October 15th
January 15th    February 15th

The best survey of all surveys reviewed for a particular submission deadline, as deemed by the Research Committee (and approved by AAES Officers), will be disseminated to the membership by email, placed on the AAES Survey page found under the Research tab, and distributed once via AAES social media sites (if deemed appropriate by the study team). Changes to the survey may be requested by the Research Committee prior to dissemination to the membership. The study team will be responsible for the creation of content for distribution via social media. Social media content must be approved by the Chair of the IT committee and the Chair of the Research committee.

If the survey is selected for dissemination to the AAES membership by email, investigators will be required to submit a one-time fee prior to dissemination as follows:

  • $500 for AAES members in good standing (content to be approved by Research Committee & Officers)
  • $1,000 for non-AAES members conducting academic research
  • $1,500 for members of sister societies
  • $5,000 for industry usage

AAES must approve all content prior to distribution. For survey dissemination, AAES will distribute the email to the membership on behalf of the principal investigator unless other arrangements for distribution are discussed and approved.

If a survey is not selected for dissemination by email but is approved by the Research Committee (and approved by AAES Officers) for posting on other AAES sites, it will be listed on the AAES Survey page and distributed via AAES social media sites (if deemed appropriate by the study team). The study team will be responsible for the creation of content for distribution via social media. This content must be approved by the Chair of the IT committee and the Chair of the Research committee. Investigators will be required to submit a one-time fee prior to posting on the website and social media dissemination as follows:

  • $350 for AAES members in good standing
  • $750 for non-AAES members conducting academic research
  • $1,500 for members of sister societies
  • $5,000 for industry usage
