About Dr. Bo Wang
Bo Wang, MD, PhD, is a thyroid surgeon and Associate Professor at Fujian Medical University Union Hospital in Fuzhou, China, where he serves as Deputy Director of the Department of Thyroid Surgery and as a doctoral and master’s supervisor. His clinical practice focuses on thyroid cancer, complex and reoperative thyroid surgery, and endoscopic and robotic approaches, with particular emphasis on preserving recurrent laryngeal nerve and parathyroid function.
His principal research focus is PTAIR, a computer-vision platform for AI-assisted recognition of the parathyroid glands, recurrent laryngeal nerve, and other critical structures during thyroid surgery. He also develops surgical-video annotation workflows that connect clinical expertise with machine learning and integrates near-infrared autofluorescence, indocyanine green perfusion imaging, and intraoperative neuromonitoring to improve real-time surgical guidance. Dr. Wang serves as Deputy Editor of the American Thyroid Association’s Video Endocrinology and as a member of the ATA Publications Committee. He was also a visiting scholar in thyroid surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. His goal is to translate innovation into practical tools that make thyroid surgery safer, more precise, and easier to teach.
