The Department of Surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a highly skilled, fellowship-trained endocrine surgeon to join its rapidly growing and high-volume endocrine surgery program. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a well-established multidisciplinary team dedicated to providing exceptional care in the treatment of thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal conditions and to build a national profile in academic surgery. Qualifications• Completion of an accredited general surgery residency program.• Completion of an AAES-accredited endocrine surgery fellowship.•Eligibility for American Board of Surgery certification and complex thyroid/parathyroid surgery focused practice designation.• Demonstrated excellence in clinical and operative skills, particularly in thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal surgery.• Proficiency in ultrasound and ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (FNA), with proficiency in radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and laryngoscopy preferred.• Strong interest in clinical and/or basic science research, with a track record of scholarly activity preferred.• Credentials appropriate for appointment at the Assistant Professor level; candidates with higher academic rank are also encouraged to apply. Program Highlights The successful candidate will join a collaborative team of dedicated endocrine surgeons focused exclusively on endocrine-related conditions. Key program features include:•In-office ultrasound and FNA• Intraoperative PTH assays and nerve monitoring.• Availability of advanced technologies gamma probe localization, RFA, and flexible laryngoscopy.• Access to a multidisciplinary endocrine tumor board and high-quality adrenal vein sampling.• Opportunities to engage in research through a well-established endocrine surgery research group with robust departmental resources and partnerships. Responsibilities• Provide exceptional clinical care for patients requiring thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal surgery.• Actively engage in teaching and mentoring medical students, general surgery residents, and an endocrine surgery fellow as part of UAB's accredited education programs.• Contribute to the development and advancement of research initiatives within the field of endocrine surgery and beyond.• Participate in a shared call pool covering endocrine and general surgery cases.
