Dear Colleague, We are actively searching for two thyroid surgeons to join our highly successful group. We are based in Tampa, Florida and currently have 2 surgeons on our team that perform thyroid operations exclusively in a beautiful brand-new state of the art Center overlooking the waters of Tampa Bay. We are growing and in need of a few more team members. In 2018 we performed over 1500 thyroid operations on patients from all 50 states and 29 foreign countries. Our practice has 2.5 years of annual growth and we are projected to have a 50% annual growth rate for the next several years which would put us over 3000 thyroid operations annually in 2 years, and over 5,000 per year by 2023. Our current volume is 10 thyroid operations per day, 3 days per week (about 30 per week) but we expect this to grow to 50 per week within the calendar year 2019. Nearly 60% of our patients are from outside the state of Florida. We operate out of our own Center within a large hospital where we have an entire floor of the hospital with 3 operating rooms dedicated to our thyroid practice. Surgeons are expected to operate 3 days per week. We are our own dedicated entity with our own expert ultrasound, anesthesia, pathology, preoperative, surgical, and post operative and teams. There is no call except for the care of our own patients and we do not cover the ER. Our thyroid practice is unique in that the surgeons work as a team such that every patient has at least two highly-trained surgeons participate in their operation. We do not have medical students, residents, or fellows—our operating rooms are staffed with the same dedicated team members every day making for a very smooth and enjoyable experience. We have an established advanced technical approaches to thyroid and neck surgery so that these operations are straightforward, quick, and highly successful. We are referred some of the most interesting cases and many very challenging cases as well—we performed over 300 re-operative thyroid cancer, medullary thyroid cancer and poorly differentiated thyroid cancer cases in 2018. We do not intubate our patients, and essentially 100% are discharged within 1.5-2 hours. The academic opportunities are essentially boundless with patient, data, and tissue resources including our own pathology laboratory. We only preserve parathyroid glands and all parathyroid operations are partnered with our sister center, the Norman Parathyroid Center which operates out of four adjacent operating rooms within our Center. In all, we have 7 dedicated operating rooms and aim to care for more than 10,000 total thyroid and parathyroid operations in 5 years. This is a very exciting opportunity to live in one of the country’s most desirable, growing, and vibrant cities (where it never snows). We prefer to hire a surgeon who has several years of experience following surgical training but would consider a well-trained surgeon right out of residency/fellowship or a more senior surgeon who is willing to retool to our surgical approaches. A fellowship in Endocrine Surgery is very helpful, but not an absolute requirement for obvious reasons. Well-trained Otolaryngology /Head and Neck Surgeons and General Endocrine Surgeons are equally considered. Compensation would be appropriate for experience, qualifications and productivity.
