1. WHAT IS THE MISSION OF THE FUND?
The mission of the Paul LoGerfo Educational Research Fund is to support education and research in the field of Endocrine Surgery as a legacy to our former President, Dr. Paul LoGerfo. Dr. LoGerfo was very much interested in education and clinical research in the field of Endocrine Surgery. Due to his untimely death during his Presidency of our Association in 2003, the Paul LoGerfo Educational Research Fund was developed. Money will be solicited from the members of the AAES, patients and families in order to provide support to educational and research activities of the Membership.
II. WHAT IS THE TAX STATUS?
At present, donations to the Paul LoGerfo Educational Research Fund are not tax deductible.
III. WHAT IS THE RELATIONSHIP OF THE PAUL LOGERFO EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH FUND TO THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF ENDOCRINE SURGEONS?
The AAES is the parent umbrella to the Paul LoGerfo Educational Research Fund. There is a separate subcommittee of the AAES which provides recommendations of the usage of the money to the existing Council of the American Association of Endocrine Surgery. Members of this committee are appointed by the sitting President of the AAES. Financial status reports will be provided yearly to the Membership at the Annual Meeting by the Secretary-Treasurer.
IV. WHAT ARE THE GOALS OF THE EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH FUND?
Monies will be utilized to provide funds towards research in both basic science and clinical areas related to endocrine surgical diseases. Priority will be given to those projects related to patient outcomes involving and benefiting the entire Association.
V. WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY?
Surgeons who are currently Members of the AAES may apply for the Paul LoGerfo Educational Research Fund. Fellows in Endocrine Surgical Fellowships sponsored by a Member of the AAES may also apply. A grant application with details of the project should be submitted to the Chair of the Paul LoGerfo Educational Research Fund to be reviewed by this committee and recommendations then forwarded to the Council annually. Successful applicants will be expected to present to the membership an updated report on their project the following year.
