Mike Demeure is asking members of the AAES for their help with a research project in Adrenocortical cancer. I am working with a private non-profit group called the Translational Genomics Research Institute or TGen in Phoenix and c-Path. C-Path is a partnership between the University of Arizona and the FDA whose purpose is to speed drug development for orphan diseases. We have received a substantial grant to study the genetics of adrenocortical cancers with a goal of identifying targets for new therapeutic agents for this disease. It is my hope that members of the AAES will assist by asking their patients to allow frozen samples of their tumors to be sent for study. In the future, AAES members will be asked to participate in clinical trials on the new agents. Several members of the AAES have discussed that our group should work together to answer scientific questions about rare endocrine tumors. I see this as an opportunity for us to do this.
