1-2 year funded program limited to surgeons who have completed residency training in General Surgery and are board certified or eligible by the American Board of Surgery. PGY-6 salary with housestaff privileges (e.g. mealcard, parking) and medical benefits.

Objectives of the Program
|
Fellows will have clinical responsibilities both in private and public clinics devoted entirely to patients with endocrine problems. He/she will become proficient in the diagnosis and treatment of endocrine surgical problems. This fellowship offers a flexible and balanced workload with exposure to related endocrine, nuclear medicine and pathology disciplines. This program provides an excellent opportunity for surgeons to develop the expertise to pursue careers in surgical endocrinology.

Highlights of the Fellowship

One of the first fellowships established in the country, the medical center serves a large number of patients with thyroid,
parathyroid, adrenal and pancreatic endocrine diseases. The annual caseload for fellows consists of 175 thyroid, 85 parathyroid, 12 adrenal and 2-4 neuroendocrine pancreatic and GI tumor cases. Opportunity exists for additional exposure to pancreatic exocrine cases. Fellows become well versed in office and intraoperative ultrasound for thyroid and parathyroid disease. Additional experience includes intraoperative parathyroid hormone monitoring, limited parathyroidectomy, laparoscopic adrenalectomy and ultrasound guided FNA. Fellows also play an active role in subspecialty conferences, research and manuscript preparation.
